Morning Star Gallery continues its long tradition of providing important
material from all major cultural regions of North America. We use accurate
information to illuminate the stories present in the objects, by placing
Native American history within the larger framework of North American
history. Our perspective on our objects is maintained through current
art historical theory, anthropological research and ethnographic context.
The 19th century romantic notions of Native American peoples and their
art become obsolete when interdisciplinary approaches are applied. These
objects are not products of extinct, "primitive" cultures. Rather,
they are part of a larger artistic tradition that has been inherited by
contemporary Native American artists.
As quality American Indian art has become increasingly difficulty to obtain,
Morning Star Gallery is prepared to actively explore new avenues and possibilities
in adding to its inventory. The gallery is interested in acquiring collections
of material as well as individual works of art.
Our staff is able to advise collectors on aspects of acquiring, installing,
conserving, appraising, improving quality and disposition of material.
As members of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association, the staff at
Morning Star Gallery can provide information about the value of your existing
Native American objects. We sincerely hope you find this to be useful
and invite you to contact us if we may be of
assistance.
In 2002 Nedra Matteucci purchased Morning Star Gallery. This association
has re-energized the gallery and widened the range of materials offered.
Nedra Matteucci Galleries has an important
collection of Native American material. However, it is best known for
historic Western paintings. Morning Star Gallery is also pleased with
its new association with its neighbor on Canyon Road, Nedra
Matteucci Fine Art which represents important contemporary painters
and sculptors.
